J.G. "Pat" Patterson Double Feature from Something Weird Video THE BODY SHOP (a.k.a. DOCTOR GORE) (1973) and THE ELECTRIC CHAIR (1976) MPEG-4 files from DVD-R of VHS transfer (captured from DVD at 5.5 mbps) Follow this? I recorded the movies from DVD on VHS a long time ago. Recently I played the VHS through my capture device and turned the resulting MPG files into DVD-Rs. Then I ripped these MPEG-4 files from the DVD-Rs. J.G. "Pat Patterson" directs and performs in two films made with borderline non-actors in North Carolina. The local color is strong here, Patterson is a hoot. BODY SHOP is a generic tale of a mad doctor who tries to create the perfect woman to replace his deceased wife. His assistant is a hunchback who wants a woman of his own. Patterson was a spook show magician who performed throughout the South before he got into the feature film business, and BODY SHOP is a product of his wide theatrical experience. Obvious but wonderful special effects here. ELECTRIC CHAIR was filmed around the same time as BODY SHOP but released a couple years later. It's mostly a courtroom and jailhouse drama, with some bizarre characters, unusual locations, strange pacing and logic, all that you might hope for in a regional drive-in production. Patterson's real-life wife plays the evil widow of the murdered minister in this film. She's not half-bad! Enjoy.
